5 Minutes with…Craig Campbell

For the last decade Canadian Craig Campbell has been living among us Brits trying to fathom all the little idiosyncrasies that make up British culture. Ten years later he’s none the wiser.

Craig has just finished supporting Frankie Boyle on tour and is now taking his own show to the masses from February.  He managed to squeeze in a quick-fire assault (of questions) and here are his nuggets of comic wisdom.

Happy New Year! What are your New Year’s Resolutions?
Watch even less TV than I do now.

What was your highlight of 2010?
Motorcycle trip to Norway tied for first with Cat-skiing in British Columbia.

You look like a very ‘outdoorsy’ fellow. Could you wrestle a bear?
Don the suit and make your move Paddington!

Craig Campbell

Doggy love

What’s the wildest thing you’ve done?
Ran into a room full of my ‘friends’ watching a horror film with a revving chainsaw wearing a balaclava. Seriously entertaining and I highly recommend it!

Now that you’ve settled down in Devon, what’s your favourite British pastime?
I’m in Devon but far from settled down. Fav’ Brit pastime, playing more and working less.

What’s your earliest childhood memory?
I barely trust my adult ones.

What superpower would you most like to have?
Russia (the dancing bears on ice skates really do it for me).

When was the last time you laughed ‘til you nearly peed?
Years ago watching Looney Tunes on shrooms – Wiley E. Coyote working a catapult if you’re curious to repeat the experiment. Oddly an episode I found as funny as cancer when sober.

You performed at Bestival (amongst others) last year. How was that, and what was the weirdest thing you saw?
Bestival once again was awesome and I can’t wait to return this year. The acts were playful and adventurous and the audiences supportive and boisterous – a comedic symbiotic dream. Offstage I frequently encountered strangers being open and kind to one another and that as you know is weird, very weird.

What can punters expect of your debut tour?
For a start not  to be referred to as punters and more importantly their money’s worth.

Finish the sentence: ‘The best thing about being a stand-up is…’
Beats workin’!

Craig Campbell will begin his nationwide tour on February 22nd. For further information and dates near you please see Craig’s website.
