WATN: The Cast of Teen Wolf

Michael J Fox in Teen Wolf in wolf costumePuberty is a confusing time for us all, – girls grow astronomically quicker than boys, spots come by the dozen and hairs sprout up in all sorts of places – especially for Teen Wolf’s Scott Howard.

For the high-school students in Beacon Town a certain Michael J. Fox discovered he had a rather interesting genetic condition.

As the film’s tagline tells ā€œHe’s got style, he’s got class, and he’s got hair all over his bodyā€, yes Scott Howard was a werewolf in teen’s clothing.

Brought to us in a simpler time when mobile phones were the size of handbags, Teen Wolf joined the ranks of classic cult 80s films such as Ferris Bueller, Ghostbusters and Gremlins.

Instead of inciting a witch hunt, Wolfmania took the school by storm and Howard, once a mediocre basketball player and a nobody, embraced his new wolfy powers to become the school’s star basketball player and get girl of his dreams.

Creating an animated spin-off television series and a sequel, Teen Wolf certainly made an impression on kids of the 80s but whatever happened to the cast of this cult classic? Let’s start off with an easy one shall we with old Michael J. Fox.

Michael J. Fox – Scott Howard
Although filmed before Back to the Future, Teen Wolf was released after the hugely successful time-travelling blockbuster that thrust Fox into the limelight.

The Back to the Future franchise which starred Michael as Marty McFly in all three films grossed an incredible $957 MILLION and set up Michael J. Fox for life.

Fox didn’t return for the sequel of Teen Wolf (Teen Wolf Too starred Jason Bateman as Scott’s cousin inflicted with the wolfy predicament) – I guess he’d had enough of them after his adventures through time.

In 1996 Fox starred in the critically acclaimed Spin City playing deputy mayor of New York Mike Flaherty, a character which won him the ā€˜Best Performance by an Actor in a TV-Series’ Emmy three years running! He also became an executive producer on the show.

1996 was also the year in which Fox starred in The Frighteners, a comic horror delight directed by a certain up-coming Hobbit-obsessed director…

In 1991 Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease but only disclosed this to the public in 1998. In 2000 he announced semi-retirement from acting.

Not one to let a simple disease stop him Fox continued success on the big screen and in television. Fox appeared in the all-star sci-fi extravaganza Mars Attacks! from Tim Burton and cropped up as the OCD-suffering Dr Kevin Casey in Scrubs. He’s voiced the loveable rodent Stuart Little and had a recurring stint in Boston Legal.

In 2009 Fox played Dwight in fire-fighter drama Rescue Me winning himself another Emmy as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. It looks like there’s no stopping this Teen Wolf just yet…

Here’s a pic of Michael these days looking a bit startled!

James Hampton – Harold Howard
Endowed with the rather unfortunate wolf gene, Harold was Scott’s hairy father.

Hoping the condition would skip a generation, Harold didn’t tell Scott about his canine problem until it was too late…

James Hampton reprised his role in Teen Wolf Too and also voiced the same character for the animated television series. He played the Mayor of Miami in Police Academy 5 and took a turn directing some television series including children’s shows Sister, Sister and Smart Guy.

In the noughties, Hampton seemed to take a rather long break from acting but in 2009 James resurfaced in Fire From Below which looks, quite frankly, appalling.

Hampton has another film in post-production entitled The Coffin, in which we quote ā€œa cursed coffin is wreaking havoc across the Southland, leaving death and destruction in its wakeā€ā€¦Right then.

Susan Ursitti – Lisa “Boof” Marconi
Boof played by Susan Ursitti was cursed with something far worse that lycanthropy (werewolfiness) – she was cursed with the deadly I-love-my-best-friend-but-he-doesn’t-realise-it syndrome. Poor Boofy.

Scotty boy did however come round to the idea and they lived happily ever wolfy (we assume) but what happened to Susie? Well in all honesty we haven’t really got the foggiest…

After a sporadic decade of appearances in less than memorable movies Defence Play and The Walking Dead and a couple of television outings in 21 Jump Street and TV 101 (your guess is as good as ours), Ursitti has slipped into relative obscurity.

According to the all-knowing Wikipedia, Ursitti is a happily married mother of three. Well there are worse things she could be doing – like starring in The Coffin…

Jerry Levine – Rupert “Stiles” Stilinski
Quick to earn a buck off his friend’s ā€˜condition’ Rupert ā€˜Stiles’ Stilinski was that ever-annoying best friend with the hair-brained ideas, cashing in on wolf-related merchandise. Gotta admire his spirit…

Stiles, better known as Jerry Levine, entered the world of television after Teen Wolf and appeared in a number of successful series, albeit mostly playing one off roles.

You can find Jez in Seinfeld, Boy Meets World, Chicago Hope, Monk and in Will & Grace playing Joe (of Joe and Larry). Levine, however, turned his trade to direction, directing episodes of Boy Meets World, Monk, and Everybody Hates Chris, and most recently an episode of the television adaptation of Crash.

Here’s what he looks like nowadays

Matt Adler – Lewis
Playing one of the not so prominent friends of Scott, Lewis shied away from the Wolfmania ā€˜dogging’ the high school.

Matt Adler is still in the business we call show but interestingly more as a voice artist.

He has leant his skills as an ā€˜additional voice’ to a host of well-known animations including Dinosaur, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Lorie Griffin – Pamela Wells
Lorie Griffin played high-school hottie Pamela Wells, the object of Scott’s affection.

Oddly enough his hairy basketball skills seemed to have the desired effect on the fickle cheerleader and Scott got his merry way with her only for him to finally realise what had been staring him in the face all along – Boof.

Griffin’s last known role was in 1993 starring in the film Sandman. Apparently after the final day of shooting, the director Eric Woster committed suicide. Griffin has since retreated from the public eye. Boooo.

Jim McKrell – Vice Principal Thorne
Every 80’s film had them; Back to the Future had Mr Strickland, Ferris Bueller had Mr Rooney and Teen Wolf had Vice Principal Thorne giving our protagonist a hard time but scoring one for the masses though, Scott literally made Thorne pee his pants.

Jim McKrell had been in the business for twenty years before Teen Wolf came along breaking through as a game show host in the 70’s. After Teen Wolf, McKrell guest starred in numerous shows such as Dynasty and The Golden Girls.

McKrell’s last acting credit was in 1991 but he’s been keeping himself busy as a corporate spokesman for Chevrolet and Disney. He’s also been a radio host also been a news anchor for the KHTV network in Houston. Next, world domination!

Well I hope that’s enough Teen Wolf trivia for you…if you think we’ve left anything/anyone important out then do let us know below.
